Nobody Reads Blogs Anyway

If the statistics are to be believed, the 'blog' is becoming obsolete. Doomed to join the fate of the magazine, slowly gathering dust on a distant shelf.
It was with triumphant glee that the 'blog' took its place. "The hottest news and fashion trends at the tips of your fingers. All the features of a magazine, on a single web page."

Call it poetic, then, that blogs will soon meet a similar fate. People aren't typing URLs on their internet server anymore. They're googling the information they need and tapping the first option they see, never to return again. Forcing blogs to churn out search-friendly content and lose their original intention: Individuals logging their thoughts and experiences to attract regular readers.

Still, blog platforms are still active and preferred amongst readers and writers.
But they're dramatically outpaced by bite-sized and short-form mediums of content: the Instagram explore page, Tiktok and YouTube shorts. It's much easier and faster to share your ideas on a Twitter thread than the hassle of writing and designing a blog post.

So, where does that leave me? I started blogging in 2017 on a whim. I didn't know how to design an interface and didn't bother to research how, I just threw myself into it and learned along the way. When you're young, you do things like that... without doubt or fear holding you back.
My domain name was inspired by a misheard Ariana Grande lyric (star in the tribe/stars, and I try), and I've never looked back since.

This platform carried me through the formative years, when I had ideas too extraordinary, too gigantic to keep to myself. The concept of finding yourself is such a hassle now, but back then, it meant trying on different selves and seeing how they fit. My archives are a time-capsule of every belief philosophy I've held and discarded. Every transformation I went through and eventually outgrew.

There was a brief period in 2023 where I tried to emulate the late Toni Morrison, my prose filled with gnashing teeth and decayed fruit. The year of 2020 saw me excessively following a sunshine theme. But none are as tragic as the great depression of 2019, where I desperately tried to get people to notice me.

So I'm going to keep blogging, whether it's popular or not. Writing this content made me a better creator and visionary. It gave me the courage to try, to change and to revisit for learning purposes.

It’s been a home of sorts. And I hope it can be a pit stop for many to find rest, or a chuckle at best.

But I'll keep writing, even if I'm the only one reading. The blog will certainly die someday – but you’ll have to pry it out of my hands first.
