But Love Remains

I know what it's like to lose,  To lose a father And watch him slip away.  I know what it's like to hold your breath everyday  To cry in secret To fall in pieces  And paint your pillow with heartbreak  I know what it is to resent your pain.  And bleed somewhere deeper than the veins To be a walking memorial service, carrying the odour of a loved one like a stain I know what it is to mourn for the times that never came An arm to hold you on your wedding day A shoulder for your son and daughter to lay But when we leave this world  And our flesh and bones fade in the dirt Our story will not end in the grave  Because love remains. When the organs inside us have failed and sickness prevails Love remains  When the smell of cologne  And their imprint on the pillow Have started to fade Love remains  When day turns into year and year into decade Love remains  When the trees have fallen and their fruit decayed  But love remains When time has withered and the sun begun to shiver  Love rem
