Unearthly

My hands can coax

a hummingbird

out of a page

But fail to trace the elegant lines
of your face

You are an artwork that defies paint

The fresh dewdrops

that sit upon the flower tops

The gentle scattering of seed

across the corn field

The edge of the aged forest

teeming with new, crisp life

You don't so much

take my breath away

As I yield it willingly,

in a basket,

intricately woven, at your feet.
